God desires to conform us to the image of His Son Jesus (Romans 8:29) and transform us by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). We believe growth in Christ involves four aspects: word, worship, work, and witness, which are symbolized by the Christian’s head (word), heart (worship), hands (work), and feet (witness). Proportionate growth in each of these areas results in growth in Christ—the process of discipleship. Thus, discipleship is a process of moving persons from being non-believers to maturing disciples who make disciples.
Through the process of discipleship, our church makes disciples and follows Jesus’ final and most important instructions to His Church: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
A disciple is a Christian who grows in knowledge and understanding of the Word of God (head), cultivates relationships with God and people (heart), dedicates himself to the building of His Kingdom through service (hands), and shares the good news of the gospel through word and deed (feet).
The head, heart, hands, and feet model is our discipleship plan to help all believers both become disciples and make disciples. Because every person has unique qualities, discipleship must be specifically tailored for the individual. No believer shares an identical journey of spiritual growth, and people respond differently to activities designed for such growth. Therefore, each stage in the discipleship process has multiple activities and experiences to meet the various needs of individual growth.
